Charter Review Commission wants your input on June 20

By Jennifer L. Saunders

OGUNQUIT - The Charter Review Commission wants your opinion.

The commission will hold a public hearing at its next meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, June 20, with the goal of gathering reactions from residents to proposed changes for the town's charter.

Those changes include increasing the size of the Board of Selectmen from the current five members to seven; changing the town's fiscal year from the current calendar year to a fiscal year schedule of July 1 through June 30, and creating a more rigorous process for recall elections in town.

Other proposed changes include requiring some - or all - members of the town's Planning Board, Budget Review Committee and possibly other boards to be elected rather than appointed.

The commission is also looking at specifying a new process for town manager searches and providing additional choices for voters when it comes to budget warrant articles.

Another item listed for public review reads, "Integrity - changes designed to ensure additional integrity in the conduct of Town Government."

According to the commission's agenda, any other changes residents would like to present during the public hearing will also be considered at the meeting.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on June 20 at the Dunaway Center Auditorium and will also be broadcast on public access channel WOGT. To view the agenda, visit Agendas.
