Calling all kids: spend a week this summer helping AWS animals

KENNEBUNK - If you're between the ages of 7 and 14 and you love cats, dogs and other domestic animals, the Animal Welfare Society has just the opportunity you've been searching for.

Spaces are still available in the Animal Welfare Society's Summer Workshop Program, but hurry to register and confirm your place because spaces are filling fast.

The program runs from July 9 through Aug. 23.

Children who take part in this special program will have an opportunity to experience life at the Animal Welfare Society with its fun-loving, furry friends. The program has proven to be a rewarding opportunity for the children to actively participate in the care and socialization of the animals.

Each four-day session runs Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and includes fieldtrips to a local veterinary clinic well as York's own Center for Wildlife in Cape Neddick. Children will receive an Animal Welfare Society T-shirt, a photo taken with their favorite shelter animal and a great hands-on learning experience.

The registration fee is $200 per session.

For more information, or to register, please call Humane Educator Barbara Wilkinson at 985-3244, ext. 109, or visit the AWS website at http://www.animalwelfaresociety.org/ to download a brochure and registration form.
