First York Harbor Striper Tournament to be held June 24 and 25
YORK HARBOR - York Hospital, York Harbor Marine Service and the Coastal Conservation Association of Maine will present the first in what is planned as an annual York Harbor Striper Tournament.
The events will kick off at 5 p.m. on June 24 with a dinner at the Dockside Restaurant, featuring a rum bar from Horizon Liquors, beer from Allagash Brewing and an auction with items like a Honda motor and vacation getaways.
The catch-and-release tournament will start at dawn the next morning, Monday, June 25, and all photos of the caught fish are due at the judging station by 3:30 p.m.
Proceeds will benefit two local causes: York Hospital and the Coastal Conservation Association of Maine.
"The tournament is going to be a lot of fun for all involved, and it isn't just for fishermen, either. For $25, people can buy dinner tickets for Sunday's Captain's Party and Auction," explained York Hospital President Jud Knox. "We hope for a great turnout and all participants have a safe day of fishing."
On Sunday evening, June 24, the party will include raffles and live and silent auctions of L.L. Bean & Orvis gear, a Honda four-stroke motor, a ski getaway, Red Sox tickets and more. The wrap-up party and awards presentations will also take place at Dockside, overlooking the entrance to York Harbor.
"There is no limit to where people can fish in this tournament, as long as they are in legal waters. So while the center of this event is in York, we are hoping people sign up from all over New Hampshire and Maine and join in on the fun," said Ian Burnes, executive director of the Coastal Conservation Association of Maine.

Registration for one adult for the full tournament is $125, $50 for ages 14 and under, and includes the captains' party and auction, a tournament goodie bag with the official tournament hat and t-shirt, a tape measure and a ticket to the wrap-up party.
