The Planning Board has given the nod, with conditions, for construction to begin on a new Rite Aid pharmacy near the intersection of Route 1 and Route 91. When the Board of Selectmen met last week, they learned of an innovative plan to address the town’s need for moderately-priced housing from Town Planner Steve Burns, and now the Affordable and Workforce Housing Committee is giving that idea a closer look. Soldiers from Maine and New Hampshire who are arriving in Iraq July 1 will be greeted with these care packages put together by volunteers from Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6977 in York. It is a tradition in town to commemorate Marty Ulan’s life of service by honoring one special person each year with the Martin Ulan Citizenship Award. It was just about one year ago when York Middle School teacher Lisa Graziano learned her grant application to the York Education Foundation had been approved, making it possible for her to put pieces of history in her students' hands. York High School alumna Katie Gilroy is continuing her work to make a difference in the Gulf Coast, one city at a time.

Correction - Last week it was incorrectly stated in the York Police Department Incident Log that Jesse J. Bartlett, 24, 38 Algonquin Drive, York, was charged with operating while license suspended on June 7. Correctly stated, Bartlett was charged with operating while registration suspended.
Capt. Stephen P. Garrity will be relieved by Capt. James E. Rendon as commander of Coast Guard Sector Northern New England at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26, at Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth.
