OGUNQUIT - The Barn Gallery's mid-season exhibitions opened today, Wednesday, June 27, and will continue through July 29.

All are invited to a gala reception at the gallery this Saturday, June 30, from 5 to 8 p.m., for the mid-season artists.

"Regional Artists," the Barn Gallery's 11th Annual Open Show, is selected by juror Anne Zill, director of the University of New England's Gallery of Art, from work by area artists, while "OAA Expressions," a varied exhibition by artists of the Ogunquit Art Association, is being shown in the newly renovated Lower Gallery.

Two painters, Pat Andreotti and Gail E. Sauter, will exhibit their paintings of Maine, Italy and other places in the North Gallery while invited New England sculptors will continue to show their work in the outdoor Sculpture Court.

In July, the Barn Gallery offers gallery talks, workshops, art videos and many other programs.

There are fees for the figure drawing class and workshops; however, all other programs are free.

On Thursday, July 12, at 7:30 p.m., Andreotti and Sauter will discuss painting at home, in Italy and other favorite places. On July 19, also at 7:30 p.m., a panel of artists will discuss their work in the 11th Annual Regional Open Juried Show. Then, on July 26 at 7:30 p.m., Andreotti will lead the audience and a panel of artists in an exploration of how to look at art.

Figure Drawing from the Model will begin July 10 and will meet on subsequent Tuesdays, except for July 31 and Aug. 7, through Aug. 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. For a small fee, anyone may come to draw during this class.

The Art and Artist Video Series will be held on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. from July 11 through Sept. 5. July's films include "Who Gets to Call it Art: Henry Beldzahler," on July 11; "Dziga Vertov's Black & White (Man with a Movie Camera)" on July 18 and "Andy Goldsworthy - Rivers & Tides, Working with Time" on July 25.

Four new workshops by well-known teachers will complete the Barn Gallery's July schedule. Except for Kim Bernard's "Introduction to Encaustic," all workshops are held at the Barn Gallery.

On July 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Edward Betts will teach "Beyond the Basics." Organizers have described this workshop as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sharpen your skills and get a kind, but accurate, critique of your work from the widely known and respected painter and author of "Creative Watermedia."

On July 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., colorist painter Norman West will teach "Observing Color," a workshop to help you learn through observation and trial and error to apply the colors you see to your painting.

On July 21 and 22, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Bernard will offer a two-day "Introduction to Encaustic" workshop at her studio offering you a chance to try this ancient and versatile method of painting with hot beeswax and color.

On July 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Dustan Knight will teach "Floral Watercolor Painting from the Outside In," an unusual approach to designing and painting large-scale florals. All levels are invited to follow the step-by-step demonstration with lots of room to be creative.

The Barn Gallery is located at the corner of Shore Road and Bourne Lane in Ogunquit. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
