Currents in Education

The work has begun. Before the ballots went to publication for the May Budget Referendum, a project to add arts instructional space at York High School, which had won the full support of the School Committee and the endorsement of the Budget Committee, had to be pulled from the warrant. The applications have been all been reviewed, and in its third year of making funds available for outstanding projects proposed by local educators, the York Education Foundation has awarded $21,583 for programs in the school year ahead. It was the news no one in the York School Department — from administrators to staff to students — wanted to hear. Principal Jane Stephenson’s name has been synonymous with Coastal Ridge Elementary School for the 16 years the school has been in existence. Family members, friends and supporters were on hand as Wells-Ogunquit Adult Community Education held its 2007 high school graduation ceremony on Tuesday, June 12, in the Wells High School Auditorium.
