Jack Hoyt

GORHAM - Kenneth Jack Hoyt, Sr., 57, of Rust Road, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at a Boston hospital following a long illness.

He was born in Portland on Sept. 29, 1949, the son of Samuel and Pearlice Larrivee Hoyt, Sr., Educated in the Gorham schools, he was a graduate of the University of Southern Maine.

In his early days, he worked on a dairy farm and then taught technology education at York High School for over 25 years. Jack was a well loved and respected teacher and mentor. He made a difference in many students' lives.

He started a Future Farmers of America Chapter in York High School, of which he was very proud. Jack coached the hockey team and he was their number one fan.

The Class of 2007 dedicated the yearbook to him. Jack was respectfully called Hoyt by his students. He loved making maple syrup, and farming - next to teaching - was his second love.

Jack was married to his childhood friend Colleen Casey for 29 years. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Samuel Hoyt, Jr.

Besides his wife, Colleen, he is survived by his children, Kenneth Jack Hoyt, Jr., of Gorham, and Casey Ann Martinez and her husband, John Paul, of Texas; a grandchild, Natalia Martinez; a sister, Claudia Othuese of Cornish, and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours were held June 22 at the Dolby Dorr Funeral Chapel with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on June 23 from St. Anne's Church in Gorham. Burial followed in West Gorham Cemetery.
