As director of York’s Wild Animal Kingdom, Mika Nurmikko said that about eight years ago he started taking a different approach to taking care of the 100-plus species that live on the zoo's 85 acres. There’s a new face at the Ogunquit Playhouse beginning this month, though she’s a familiar face to fans of the Old York Historical Society.

With school out of the season and an influx of visitors to town, police are urging parents to be aware of their children’s activities and, at all times of the year, to exercise caution when it comes to their children’s safety. On Friday afternoon and evening, firefighters worked to find and extinguish a fire on the top of Mount Agamenticus’s Third Hill, an area that is thickly wooded and accessible only by trails. Although talk of possible shark sightings off the local coast has people talking, there have been no substantiated reports this season, according to public safety officials.
