YORK VILLAGE - This past Friday, June 29, through the program entitled "Live at the Library, a staged reading of local resident Michael Kimball's play, "The Secret of Comedy" attracted a large turnout of friends and residents to appreciate a new play during one phase in its development.
The play is scheduled to premiere at the Players' Ring in Portsmouth, N.H., this fall.
Only three rehearsals with a working script preceded Friday's performance. The fact that so large a group turned out was important to the actors, director and playwright, for it gave these professionals an opportunity to evaluate audience response during a live performance - an important step in finalizing a dramatic production.
The audience was also invited to remain after the show to offer specific commentary.
This interactive process will undoubtedly help perfect what was a mesmerizing experience for many of those present.
Certainly, the support shown the playwright, director and actors through so huge turnout is testimony to general interest in supporting the arts in York.
