OGUNQUIT - Just a week after he faced charges for reportedly pointing a shotgun toward the beach from the deck of a residence in Perkins Cove, a Florida man was arrested Sunday for spitting on a police officer and violating his conditions of release for possessing ammunition and being intoxicated.
Robert V. Varas, 43, of 822 Majestic Ave., Sebastian, Fla., was charged with assault and violating condition of release at 117 Perkins Cove Road around 9:30 p.m.
"A couple officers went down to conduct a bail conditions search, and when they searched him he was in possession of alcohol and intoxicated," said Sgt. Matthew Buttrick of the Ogunquit Police Department. "He had been drinking and they also took ammunition off of him ... and he spit on one of the officers who did the search."
Buttrick said the spitting resulted in the charge of assault.
One week earlier, on Sunday, June 17, Varas was charged with reckless conduct, violating condition of release and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person around 5:45 p.m. at the same residence on Perkins Cove Road.
Later that same evening, around 8:30 p.m., Varas was also charged with a traffic violation.
