New appointments bring relief for some town boards, but more volunteers sought
By Jennifer L. Saunders
YORK - After months of discussion, and repeated requests for members of the community to come forward to serve the town, there are some new faces on a few of the town's key volunteer committees.
However, a quick glance at the town's website indicates that other town boards, including the Appeals Board, Conservation Commission, Open Space Committee and Historic District Commission, are still in need of new members.
At its most recent meeting, the Board of Selectmen voted to appoint candidates to the Planning Board and Affordable Housing Committee, as well as new members to the Parks and Recreation Board and Municipal Social Services Review Board.
When the Planning Board holds its July meeting, it will have a full list of members with the appointment of David Woods as a regular member and Lew Stowe as an alternate.
The Affordable Housing Committee, too, is now up to its full size with the addition of Helen Winebaum and Greg Gosselin. That committee is scheduled to meet again this Thursday, July 5, to continue its work on the design of a model project with the York Housing Authority as plans for a new ordinance to address workforce and affordable housing continue to be developed and reviewed.
Other new appointments to town committees include Heidi Hayes to the Parks and Recreation Board and Diane Kleist to Municipal Social Service Review Board.
The selectmen have also re-appointed several current board members and alternate members, including Robert Lovo to the Board of Assessment Review; David Tibbetts and Harry Kluger to the Conservation Commission; Barrie Munro to the Planning Board, and Anne Monks to the Sohier Park Committee.
