Town Hall is open for business
By Jennifer L. Saunders
YORK - Yes, today, July 11, is a Wednesday, and no, you're not dreaming.
Town Hall is now open for business on Wednesdays, but will still remain open late on Tuesdays to accommodate those who cannot make it in to register their cars, pay a tax bill or pick up a beach sticker during normal business hours.
Town Hall public hours are now Mondays and Wednesdays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Town Manager Rob Yandow made the formal announcement earlier this month, as the voters' approval of the town's municipal budget back in May has made it possible to once again have Town Hall open for public hours five days a week.
Those hours had to be reduced to meet budget constraints back in 2002, when Town Hall went to a four-day schedule for public hours, remaining closed on Wednesdays to allow such high-traffic areas as the Town Clerk's Office needed time to catch up on required paperwork.
In his announcement to the Board of Selectmen on June 23, Yandow noted that beginning this month, with the start of the new fiscal year, Town Hall is now open five days each week. With July 4 as a national holiday those hours begin today, Wednesday, July 11, as the first open-for-business Wednesday in about five years.
