U.S. Army Capt. Sean P. McQuade, a York High School graduate, local resident and former York Police Department part-time officer, found the unimaginable during his first tour of duty in Afghanistan: a book from his own elementary school here in York. McQuade has already received the Bronze Star for his exemplary service in Afghanistan and has been nominated to receive an even higher honor: the Silver Star Medal.

When Army Capt. Sean McQuade stood in the deserted guesthouse of a key leader of insurgent forces in Afghanistan, he never expected he would find a small hardcover book that was once the property of his elementary school.
It has been 20 years since a lighthouse keeper’s family lived within the charming 19th-century cottage attached to the town’s beloved Nubble Lighthouse.
When Mike St. Laurent and his wife, Linda, were planning the first Maine Coast Half-Marathon, to be held here in town on Sept. 23 as the only all women’s race of its kind in New England, Linda had an idea.
It was a busy evening for the Board of Selectmen as announcements of resignations from two longtime staff members and the appointment of Town Planner Steve Burns as the town’s new Director of Community Development were followed by a long talk about growth.
This “beautiful place by the sea” is the home to some very special visitors this summer, and they’re catching quite a bit of attention.
