Alice Muriel Humphrey

YORK - Alice Muriel (Leocha) Humphrey, 60, of 55 Scotland Bridge Road, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at home with her family after a 13-year battle with cancer.

She was born Aug. 30, 1946, in Rochester, N.H., daughter of the late Mitchell J. and Muriel (Turner) Leocha, and grew up in Barrington, N.H. She graduated from Spaulding High School in Rochester and attended the University of New Hampshire.

After ownership of the Treasure Chest Pet Shop in Somersworth, N.H., Alice worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard from 1980 until 1998 in the supply department, design division, advanced planning and project coordination.

Her whoopie pie business, Nana's Kitchen, started in 2002, will continue with her family.

A devoted Nana, Alice spent many precious hours sharing her love of animals, gardening and baking with her grandchildren. Saturday mornings were reserved for yard sales with her close friend Debbie Woods. A newspaper and a map were all that was needed to gather trinkets and treasures for family and friends.

From barn building to aquatic garden designs, husband Michael catered to her many projects.

Alice is survived by her husband of three years, Michael B. Gianotti; a son, Kip Humphrey and his wife Kim and their children, Payton and Tyler of York; a son, Adam Humphrey of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Diane and her husband Paul Glazer of Farmington, N.H., a sister, Leona and her husband Arthur Ryan of Nashua, N.H.; a brother, Mitchell Leocha and his wife Julie of Barrington, N.H.; nieces Crystal Wedick and Tiffany Wedick, and a great-nephew, Christopher Wedick, all of Nashua, N.H.

Calling hours for Alice were held on Monday in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, http://www.lucaseatonfuneralhome.com/. Funeral services will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to York Hospital Friendraising-Oncology Department, York Hospital, 15 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909.
