Alton Wells

BEVERLY, Mass. - Alton E. Wells, 75, of 3 Oakhurst Road and a summer resident of York Beach, Maine, for over 40 years, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at York Hospital.

He was born June 7, 1932, in Wisconsin, son of Edgar T. and Mattie (Willis) Wells. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked as an electrician for The United Shoe Machinery Corp. in Beverly for over 45 years.

His last visit to York Beach was the Fourth of July, were he sat in front of his cottage visiting with his friends and enjoying the ocean view. He recently traveled to Wisconsin with his daughter's family, where he enjoyed staying at his sister's farm and visited with his extended family.

His wife of over 49 years, Ann Marie (Smith) Wells, died in October of 2006, just six months shy of their 50th wedding anniversary.

He leaves a son, Thomas E. Wells of Beverly; a daughter, Deborah W. Robb and her husband, P. Eric Robb of Stratham, N.H.; a sister, Lavonne Bulin and her husband, Martin Bulin of Lavalle, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Josephine Wells of Reedsburg, Wis., and a sister-in-law, Eileen Connolly of Beverly; five grandchildren, Katharine, Anastasia, Patrick, Hope and Thomas; a nephew, Jeffrey Connolly; a niece, Alana Mitchell and her husband, Eric, and many nieces and nephews in Wisconsin.

A brother, Fay Wells and a brother-in-law, William Connolly, predeceased him.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Wells was held on July 17 in St. Christopher's Church, York, with private burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem, Mass.
