Helene Ergmann

BURNT HILLS, N.Y. - Helene Ergmann passed away at her daughter's home in Burnt Hills, N.Y., on Oct. 10, 2007.

Born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., on Dec. 10, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Anna Yon. She was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School.

She was a lifelong resident of Scotia, N.Y., and summered in York, Maine, for many years, eventually moving to York in 1982 until1986, when she returned to New York.

Helene was an avid decorative painter and many of her works were sold at local fairs including the Strawbery Banke Christmas Fair.

Helene was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Richard L. Ergmann.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Nancy Ergmann of York, and her daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Donald Sweet of Burnt Hills; four grandchildren, Nathan and Stephen Ergmann, Katherin Epting and Sarah Downs; a great-grandson, Caleb Epting, and her sister, Ruth Beck of Glenville.

The family would like to thank Community Hospice staff and volunteers for their loving care and concern.

Funeral services were held Oct. 16) at the Glenville Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Sylvester officiating. Interment was in Woestina Cemetery, Pattersonville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Hospice of Schenectady, City Mission of Schenectady or to East Glenville Community Church (Building Fund), Saratoga Road, Glenville.   

 

Edna S. Goodwin

YORK HARBOR - Edna S. Goodwin, 73, of Two Victoria Court, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, in York Hospital.

She was born March 20, 1934, in Natick, Mass., daughter of Emilio G. and Louise (Cornoni) Solari. She had worked as a home healthcare provider for many people over the years. She was a member of St. Christopher's Church and St. Anthony's Franciscan Monastery in Kennebunk. She was a "Goodwill Ambassador" for Sentry Hill in York Harbor.

She is survived by a son, Russell M. Goodwin and his wife Jo Ann of Capitan, N.M.; a daughter, Sheri Coons of Ellsworth; a brother, Robert Solari of Fremont, Ohio; three sisters, Janet Marjollet of West Chatham, Mass., Shirley Corrette of Bristol, N.H. and Carol Trembley of Portsmouth, N.H.; four grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer, Gabrielle and John, and nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Goodwin was held Oct. 12 in St. Christopher's Church with burial in the First Parish Cemetery. Calling hours were held Oct. 11 in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home.

Diane N. Jones

ELIOT - Diane N. Jones, 72, of 61 Imperial Drive, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, in York Hospital after a long battle with cancer.

She was born Dec. 1, 1934, in Greenville, a daughter of Edward M. and Argie H. (Jones) Berry. She graduated from York High School and worked for New England Telephone for many years. She loved her family, her faith and was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Portsmouth, N.H., and the Red Hat Society. She loved her camp in Orneville and enjoyed gardening, playing cards, traveling and adventures with her sisters.

She leaves her husband of 52 years, Arthur T. Jones; three sons, Arthur T. Jones and his wife, Amy, of Monson, Jeff W. Jones and his wife, Lanie, of South Berwick, and Bob R. Jones and his wife, Michele, of Madbury, N.H.; two daughters, Pamela Crook and her husband, Larry, of Greenfield, N.H., and Shari Savage; three sisters, Sondra King of Greenville, Nancy Morse of Granby, Conn., and Opal Demings of Augusta; 17 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Richard A. Souza

KITTERY - Richard "Styx" A. Souza, 54, is now resting in a better place, having passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at Seal Rock Healthcare in Saco, where he has resided for the past three years.

He was born April 14, 1953, in Portsmouth, N.H., and was raised in Kittery. He was the first son of Richard A. Souza and Elaine P. (Lovejoy) Burdick. He attended schools in Kittery and was employed as a machinist and toolmaker for many years at Barton's Machine Shop and Patten Tool and Engineering.

Styx was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, diving and harvesting clams in the Kittery and York area. He spent many hours on the ocean in his boat fishing, diving or just watching whales and seals. He loved to travel north to fish Mooselookmeguntic Lake and camp on Students Island. He also enjoyed watching the New England sports teams, especially the Boston Bruins.

He is survived by his mother, Elaine Burdick of Sanbornville, N.H.; a brother, Jim Souza and his wife, Dottie, of Sanbornville, N.H.; three nieces, Elaine, Kathy and Mary; a stepsister, Toni Murphy of Buxton, and his extended family, Steve and Dale Clough of Eliot and their daughters, Angela Donnell and Rhiannon Beals.
