YHS GOLF STARS START YCCC TEAM. Ryan Daly and Jeff Cole, seen here, are no strangers to the game of golf. In fact, they have been hitting the links since the age of five and, in fifth grade, began playing together, competitively, in junior tournaments. When they arrived at York High School, they teamed up and not only shared a school record of 32, posted after the same round, but ultimately shared a State Championship Trophy in 2002. So it is no surprise that the two matched up again at York County Community College. Unfortunately for these two low handicappers, YCCC was young and still without competing athletic teams. This, however, did not deter the par-seeking duo as they began their quest for competitive golf opportunities at the college level. With the help and persistence of Admissions Director Fred Quistgard, the first ever competitive athletic team of YCCC was formed. The YCCC Golf Team competed in several tournaments during the spring and summer of 2007 and, despite the fact that they were short two team members, placed first and second at the Beaver Meadow Golf Tournament in Concord, N.H. Daly and Cole will both be transferring to the University of Southern Maine after graduation this spring, but want other students to realize that organizing teams is a real possibility with a little effort. "Jeff and I have played junior, high school and college golf together." Daly said, adding, "playing together at USM will really be something. We hope that the YCCC Golf team continues." The YMCA hopes to improve the health and wellness of all Americans by helping individuals and families live healthier lives by increasing efforts in the Seacoast area to provide fun, effective, affordable and accessible programs to all individuals and families. "We have a lot of programs for youth, adults and seniors. We also offer programs for teens and families" said Joyce Dalton of the YMCA. Some examples she cited include before- and after-school programs, enrichment programs, sports and gymnastics, youth fit, land and water aerobics, family fitness classes, personal training sessions, swimming lessons, dance lessons, boxing lessons and lifeguard courses. In addition, the YMCA is teaming up with Y member and world class runner, Jeff Cullinane, pictured here, in starting a "Walk-to-Run" program.
