THE DOGS
Bubba
BubbaIt's simply impossible to meet this absolute angel of a dog and not fall in love with him immediately. Bubba, a hard-luck case, who came to us carrying the cumbersome chains that had obviously burdened him for some time, has endured things we'll never know. Every stray has his or her own story and we can only imagine what they've been through, but what we do know is that Bubba has incredible heart and a forgiving spirit. After receiving gobs of attention and TLC from our staff and volunteers, he is now ready to find a new family who will treat him like gold for the rest of his life. This boy has paid dues enough to last him several lifetimes. Totally blind at eight years of age and very hard of hearing, this wonderful dog may never win any beauty pageants, but there is no dog more noble and deserving than he.
Cooper
CooperAt eight years old, this shepherd-husky mix will dance his way right into your heart with his wiggling feet and wagging tail. He is quite the character and sure knows how to charm those he meets. He is a laid-back fellow who enjoys gentle afternoon strolls or a walk on the beach and is asking for older, more relaxed kids to share his home with. He has previously lived with another dog, so be sure to bring your dog by to meet him, but we will not be asking Cooper to share his home with cats as he shows too much interest in them. He is the kind of boy that just brings a smile to your face and brightens your day; he really is a catch you don't want to miss.
Cowboy
CowboyCowboy is a three-and-a-half-year-old wire-haired Jack Russell who is full of energy and plans. Although he may like some dogs, he would like to be the only pet in the household as he tends to want to rule the roost with a strong paw. Cowboy is smart as a whip and would do well at taking some agility classes and continuing at home. He absolutely adores people, and older children are fine, but he cannot live with cats or small children. Come and meet this little spitfire!
Heist
HeistHeist is sure to make you laugh with his silly antics and goofy personality! Heist would make a super companion for someone who is active and would like a dog to go rollerblading, hiking or jogging with. At just one year of age, he likes to burn off extra energy playing with the dogs here at the shelter so, if you have a resident pooch be sure to bring him or her by to see if they make a good match. Seeming to be too much for a cat to handle, we are asking that Heist go home to a feline-free family. He may do very well with older children who can be involved with his training. He's waiting to make a lucky family complete!
Zahn
ZahnZahn is a magnificent one-year-old male yellow Labrador who was found as a stray and brought to the AWS. His new family will need to give him a solid routine to follow and should talk to the staff about crate-training him. He will do best in a household with older children, cats and dogs and, being the smart guy that he is, already knows "sit" and "give paw." His ideal home will provide lots of play time and his family will understand that, once trained, he will be your well-behaved loyal companion for years to come!
THE CATS
Brody
BrodyBrody is a five-year-old neutered male kitty who will charm his way right into your heart. Unsure if Brody has ever shared his home with dogs, we can only guess that he would be quick to correct the dog but then settle down after the dog posed no threat to him. He is a sweet boy ready and willing to bring joy to a family that needs a bit of spark in their life.
Geneva
GenevaGeneva came to the AWS very thin and with an infection on her chin that made it very difficult for her to eat. Soon after her arrival, AWS discovered that she was pregnant and she went into foster care for several weeks until the babies were weaned and old enough to b e adopted. While in foster care, Geneva also nursed two orphaned kittens with her own four! After everything she's been through, Geneva is now available for adoption. She enjoys feeling the breeze and fresh air while perched near a screened window and also likes cool tiled floors. Although she's not one to jump on furniture, she'll probably oblige when invited. She is now being cared for at Thee Privileged Pet in York. Please stop in and visit her!
OTHER PETS
Sierra and Mist
SierraSierra, a buff and white beauty, and Mist, a bewitching brown, are both young female rats in need of a loving home. Please stop in and visit them to see if they are a good match for you.
