YORK - The York High School Wildcats, led by veteran Coach Rick Brault, will open their season with home games versus the Poland Knights on Friday, Dec. 7, and Yarmouth on Tuesday, Dec. 11.
A busy pre-Christmas schedule continues with a game at Old Orchard on Dec. 13, followed by a 5:30 p.m. home game versus Fryeburg on Saturday, Dec 15. Road games at Greely, Dec. 18, and at Freeport on Dec. 22 precede the Christmas Tournament at Oyster River on Dec. 27, 28 and 29.
Eight seniors graduated from last year's tournament team, but York will rebuild around returning veterans Matt Prewitt and Bryce Fountain along with junior Dan Sheehan and sophomore Jason Gorman.
Promoted from last year's JV team are junior Evan Wallace and sophomore Matt Campbell. Also expected to contribute are junior Jerry Ashley and sophomore Max Lindquist. Junior Alex Blasik and sophomore Jared Prugar join sophomores Sam Leal and Tristan Palhof on the team this year. Rounding out the roster are junior James Kennedy and senior Ben Leal.
This year's Lady Wildcats basketball team looks to return to the tournament again under the leadership of 26-year veteran Coach Rick Clark.
The Lady ‘Cats open on the road at Poland on Friday, Dec. 7, and then travel to Yarmouth on Tuesday, Dec. 11.
In a busy December schedule they will also face Old Orchard at home on Dec. 13 and then travel to Fryeburg on Saturday, Dec. 15. Rounding out the regular season schedule are home games versus Greely on Dec.18 and Freeport on Dec.21.
The York Lady Wildcats will also play in a Christmas Tourney at Gorham on Dec. 27, 28 and 29.
Expected to lead this year's team are returning seniors Stephanie Hartman, Haley Westman and Brittany Bracy. Juniors returning from last year's varsity team include Kim Rigano, Meredith Reid and Laney Yeomelakis.
Promoted from last year's JV roster are juniors Emily Boone, Michaela Schilling and Hana Carey, along with sophomore Emily Clark.
New to the roster this year are freshmen Steph Gallagher and Nicole Taylor along with senior Amy Caramihalis.
All home games for both teams are played in the Robert E. Butler Gymnasium at York High School with most starting at 7 p.m.
