Members of the York High School Interact Club are living up to the "act" in their club's name by participating in a new benefit activity almost every month. This Saturday, Feb. 9, at noon, they will be braving the Atlantic's frigid winter temperatures in the Interact Polar Plunge at Long Sands Beach to benefit the Durkin family of York, whose two sons each have undergone bone marrow transplants in the past two years.

Budget Committee completes review of school funding requests
In a series of meetings spanning three weeks, the Budget Committee completed its review of the School Department's fiscal 2009 operating budget of just over $25.5 million and the proposed capital budget to repair the gymnasium roof at York High School and add a new wing for music instructional space.

School officials at work on alternative to state's consolidation mandate
Local school leaders are coming up with plans they hope will allow their districts to remain independent as the state's consolidation law continues to be amended.

The York County Community College Foundation has received a $5,000 donation from the Maine Expansion Arts Fund in recognition and support of its Visiting Artists Series (VAS).

New faculty at York County Community College
York County Community College recently hired Mark Monnin of Kennebunk as a new faculty member of the Computer Technology Department and Samuel Kelley of Dover, N.H., in the Math and Physics Department.
