Article Image MILITARY HONORS. York resident Joseph R. Woodward is seen here being honored by Gov. John E. Baldacci with the State of Maine Silver Star Honorable Service Medal in a Hall of Flags ceremony in Augusta held in January. The medal was first awarded to Maine veterans in August of 2006, and is presented to those who have been wounded while serving their country. As Baldacci put it while addressing the veterans at the recent ceremony, "You've given us a wonderful example. You've given us a role model and a standard to adhere to, to rise to and to try to strive for, and I thank you for that." The governor was joined by Maine Adjutant General John W. Libby and Director of Veterans Services Peter Ogden in awarding the service medals to the veterans. Woodward received his medal for his service in World War II.
