Article Image HOT SHOTS! The Maine Elks, in conjunction with York Elks Lodge #2788, held their annual local "Hoop Shoot" Free Throw Contest on Dec. 16t. The York winners were Kevin Barrett (boys, ages 10 and 11), Madeline Leroux (girls, ages 10 and 11) and

Annie Graziano (girls, ages 12 and 13). These winners moved on to the Central District Hoop Shoot, held at Cony High School in Augusta, on Jan. 20. where Graziano, left, and Leroux placed third in their respective age groups.

Lady Wildcats, now 14 and 2, secure playoff spot
The York Lady Wildcats completed a season sweep over the Wells Lady Warriors (7-9) on Feb. 2 when they raced to a 23-7 first quarter lead and rolled to a 41-22 halftime margin.

Wells Warriors edge the York Wildcats, 40-37
On Jan. 31, the scrappy Wildcats (3-13) hoped to sweep the Wells Warriors (5-11), but it was not to be.

Hockey

York Wildcats ice Gorham Rams, 4-0
After a bruising 2-1 loss to Greely on Jan. 28, the York High School Wildcats stormed back to the top seat with their four-goal shutout of Gorham on Feb. 2 at the University of Southern Main.

The latest win for the Lady Wildcats brings their record to 6 and 6 on the season.

JV girls' ice wins one, ties two
The York JV Lady Wildcats beat Portland 5-2 on Jan. 19 in Rochester, N.H., with Nikki Heroux scoring two and Macki Hill, Becca Cole and Chelsea Hutchings each scoring one.

Busy season for York Middle School girls' hockey
York beat Nashoba Valley at Nashoba in a very close game on Jan. 26.

York Little League offers clinics
York Little League will be holding training and skills development programs at the York Sports Center on Route 1 in the weeks ahead.
