WELLS - Want to feel better this winter?
On March 9, Home Instead Senior Care® will be sponsoring "Women's Day, Feeling Good From the Outside In," at the Coastal House on Route 1 in Wells.
Area health, beauty and exercise experts will be on hand from 1 to 5 p.m. to assist with makeovers, skin care, makeup tips and application sessions, manicures, hair styling, neck and foot massages, Tai Chi and more.
The highlight of the day will be a fashion show supported by Return to Cinda's and Chadwicks, both in Kennebunk.
Home Instead Community Service Director Margy Gambell said that helping seniors look good on the outside can lead to overall healthy aging, noting that experts advise family caregivers may help their senior loved ones to cultivate a better appearance, and in the process nurture their own relationships.
"Our caregivers often see seniors whose interests in how they look has waned because caring for their appearance has become a challenge," Gambell said. "They just need a little help and encouragement. We've seen it time and time again: Helping seniors focus on looking good on the outside to feel good inside brings renewed joy to their lives."
Jeannie Rudman, client care director of Home Instead Senior Care, added, "One issue with seniors who suffer from dementia is that they don't feel normal anymore. We always tell our caregivers that they cannot change the situation but we do train them to influence the environment to help a senior feel safe and normal. This then results in how our client will see themselves - an individual with a clean, attractive and neat appearance."
Light snacks will be provided at the March 9 event, and a minimum $20 donation will be accepted at the door to benefit the Alzheimer's Association in Maine.
As space is limited, reservations are required by Friday, Feb. 22.
