THE DOGS
Peru
Peru
It was a Sunday, like any other Sunday, when a special little beagle mix arrived at our shelter. Peru, who we believe had been hit by a car, was left to fend for herself on the streets as a stray. It was clear she needed our help, medically as well as emotionally. She was rushed to the emergency clinic where she received $1,000 in medical care before she was well enough to be released. Thanks to the shelter's Sadie Fund, we were financially able to give our precious little Peru the medical care she needed. The Sadie Fund is made possible by the generous donations received throughout the year, as well as donations collected at our annual Strut your Mutt, our largest fundraiser of the year. Peru needed some additional care to improve her health. Thanks to Dr. Deb Ganster, she was provided with acupuncture treatments and a foster home and this wonderful dog was given a second chance at life from the help of many compassionate, caring people. Peru is now fully recovered and is available for adoption, so keep your eyes out for her; she'll be happy to meet you!
Carlos
Carlos
Carlos is a handsome young man ready to charm his way right into your heart. He loves to go on walks and burn off that extra energy with some outdoor play time. He's an absolute wiggle-worm, always excited to see you and shower you with kisses. Finding small animals and cats to be too much for him to handle, we will not be asking Carlos to share his home with any. He finds life to be the absolute best as your one and only, reveling in the perks of being an only child. Carlos won't object to play dates with fellow canines he has become acquainted with. He's a very happy guy, full of zest and a love for life. Obedience classes are a great opportunity for Carlos to learn and bond with his new owners and best of all, the cost of class is completely reimbursed upon completion of class. His upbeat personality and continuous smile are unforgettable. Come down and meet this two-and-a-half-year-old goofball. He'll brighten your day!
Sarah
Sarah
This is Sarah, a light brown adult Weimaraner who came to us as the result of a puppy mill seizure. This beautiful girl would love to find her forever home. Sarah wouldn't mind sharing her home with other dogs and will do well with children, too. Come down and visit with Sarah today. You and she may be the perfect match!
Raja
Raja
Being kept in a puppy mill for much of his life, Raja is hoping to find that special family willing to give him the understanding he needs to flourish in a home. His cautious and sensitive personality stems from his lack of human interaction from his many years of life in a puppy mill. Very willing to form new friendships given the chance to warm up, Raja can't wait to bond to his new special people. In fact, he bonds so strongly that he does not see any need to share with other animals, so we are asking he be the one and only pet. He will need patient and committed caregivers, willing to work with him and show him how wonderful life really can be. Silly and surely sweet, Raja is a great dog to be around and would do best in a home with older, gentle children. He will benefit greatly from obedience classes, making the bond between him and his new owner strong and healthy. We are asking that anyone interested in this stunning guy call and make an appointment to meet him. Raja is anxious to find his forever home quickly, so don't hesitate if he sounds like the perfect fit for you.
Eli
Eli
Eli is a 10-month-old American bulldog mix who came to AWS as a result of a puppy mill seizure. He is currently in foster care and will be available by appointment only. Here is what his foster mom has to say about him: "He came to us inexperienced and under-socialized, as is common with puppy mill survivors. He was afraid of basically everything, both small and large. Eli was born in a kennel and never experienced home life, so normal everyday things we do and use were very new to him. He is now thriving in foster care with us. Our home consists of four other dogs and six cats. Eli loves other dogs and looks to his canine buddies for guidance. He would love to have a canine buddy who is compatible in play style and size in his forever home. He loves to romp and roughhouse. Eli is especially insecure around men, though he has done extremely well with my husband and gets better every day. His new home will need to take it extremely slow and have patience when it comes to introducing him to men. His confidence has increased inside our house and now he enters, exits and walks through the house comfortably. This was a big milestone for him! When he first arrived, he didn't even want to venture out of his crate. Since then, his confidence has increased and he's become much more inquisitive about things, and Eli, being a typical young dog who loves to play and romp, will make fun with most anything. When we are not around to watch him he enjoys resting comfortably and safely in his crate. Eli has done very well with house-training but has had a few accidents with no blame but my own. I sometimes forget that he's still young with a small attention span. He attends obedience class every week and he seems to be enjoying it. He has been a promising student who always tries his best. His new family should continue this training as well as work on socialization with people, and confidence building. An active home with some great leadership is what he needs to thrive."
Sadie
Sadie
Here we have Sadie, a one-year-old, spayed female, black Labrador mix. She is a very excitable and determined little girl. Sadie is very eager to learn and will greatly benefit from taking an obedience class. An agility class might also be great to keep this girl busy. Sadie would love to go to her forever home. She would do fine with children over eight, other dogs and dog-savvy felines. If this beautiful girl sparks an interest, then come down and visit with her today. She may be the perfect girl for you!
Dakota
Dakota
Dakota is a three-year-old neutered male German shepherd mix. He is a handsome young man who has a short cream-colored coat. Dakota came to us because he encountered a conflict with a cat in his previous home. He would love to go to his forever home and he wouldn't mind sharing his home with children over the age of 12. Dakota also may get along with another dog as well. If you think this big boy is the one for you, please come and visit with Dakota today.
THE CATS
Xena
Xena
You can often find her taking a snooze in a soft cozy bed or gazing comfortably out the window. She's laidback and tremendously sweet, searching for that kind, special someone she can call all her own. Coming to us as a very ill stray, completely jaundiced and very debilitated, Xena was sent to the emergency clinic. Xena received proper care and extensive medical treatment to get her back on her feet. In the process of mending her health, the veterinarian discovered she has a liver insufficiency. With the help of a crushed pill added to her food daily, she can keep this under control. The small amount of extra effort is sure to be rewarded by the love and affection this sweet girl has to offer. Xena has had a long journey to reach the moment of finally being ready for adoption. You don't want to pass this girl by; she is a special find, sure to win your heart.
Willow
Willow
Here we have Willow! This young lady is a three-and-a-half-year-old spayed female who has a very nice, medium-length, brown tabby and white-colored coat. With the length of her coat, she may require a bit of brushing just to keep it beautiful and mat-free. Brushing is also a good way for Willow and you to bond. Willow came to us because her previous owners could no longer care for her properly. She would love for you to come down and see her as she waits patiently for that perfect family to go home with and call her own. Willow may just be the perfect kitty for you!
Clover
Clover
Here is Clover, a six-year-old spayed female who has a beautiful, medium-length, tortoise-colored coat. She may require a bit of brushing, just to keep it nice and mat-free. She also must stay on a dry food called ZD to keep her allergies under control. Clover came to us as a stray and is a great kitty who is not only beautiful but sweet. Clover is housed in our front lobby and she would love for you to come and see her. Your home just may become that forever home that she dreams about.
Duchess
Duchess
What a pretty face, and a super personality to go with it! Playful and equally affectionate, Duchess enjoys spending her afternoons napping in our bay window, chasing toy mice and enjoying a chin rub from our volunteers. She is a three-year-old spayed female looking for a family she can enjoy catnip with and a home where she can spend cold snowy nights cuddled up by the fire. Her short black and white fur is easy to maintain and she does a wonderful job keeping it well groomed and shiny. This little gem will brighten your day and bring a smile to your face.
Jynxy
Jynxy

OTHER PETS
Frankie
Frankie
Full of spunk and energy, Frankie is an active bunny who can often be seen jumping around our exercise pen here at the shelter. He has not been held often enough and has a hard time sitting still, so he will need to work on that with his new family. Upbeat and ready to chew his carrots and apples, Frankie is a comical guy sure to bring a smile to your face with his silly bouncing antics. He would enjoy a home with older children who can help socialize him and understand his need for patient handling. He is excited to find his forever home and share many fond memories with his family.
