YORK COUNTY - Spring is coming early to the region this year through the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days program on March 17 through 21.
Now celebrating its 35th year, this longstanding program, which involves offering daffodils every spring to donors in appreciation for their contributions, is about more than just giving beautiful flowers - it is everyone's opportunity to share hope for a world free of cancer. For a donation of $10, everyone from school children to corporate CEOs in York County can send a bouquet of fresh-cut daffodils to someone special to support the fight against cancer and give hope and help to those who need it most as a therapeutic boost for body, mind and soul.
"I encourage everyone to help paint our community yellow with daffodils this spring to show our support for the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days and to help prevent cancer, save lives, and diminish suffering from the disease," said Dawn Emery, community executive for the American Cancer Society. "Everyone has the power to make a difference for cancer patients and their families. By giving daffodils, we also have the power to give hope."
York County residents have until March 1 to place orders for daffodils. For a donation of $10, people will receive a bouquet of 10 fresh-cut daffodils. Or for a donation of $20, The Gift of Hope is a bouquet of ten daffodils given as an anonymous gift to cancer patients or others in need at local hospitals, nursing homes and community health centers. Bea R. Hope, the third in a series of special BoydsTM Bears designed exclusively for the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days, will be offered in response to a donation of $25. The Bear and a BunchTM includes a bouquet of daffodils and a 10-inch tall, light-gold colored bear holding a felt daffodil with a felt bumble bee on a flower petal. This year also marks the addition of potted daffodil bulbs which can be received for a donation of $15.
Dollars raised through Daffodil Days enable the Society to offer free programs and services that help people fight cancer with courage and optimism, while providing physical and emotional support to ease the cancer experience. Additionally, daffodil contributions provide the Society with much-needed dollars to fund groundbreaking cancer research, educate people about the importance of cancer prevention and early detection and advocate for meaningful public health policies that benefit the community.
