YORK - On Sunday, Feb. 17, the York Middle School girls' hockey team defeated the Tewksbury, Mass.-based Vipers at Phillips Exeter by a score of 3-0.
York's Olivia Drew had her first shutout of the season. The game was a tight match going through two scoreless periods before Nicci Heroux netted the first goal halfway through the period, putting York on top. With only a minute left to play, Heroux put up her second score and Gabby Boulavahn put in the empty-netter to ice the win for the young Lady ‘Cats.
Later in the day, YMSGH traveled to Gorham to play Cape Elizabeth Middle School and it was a complete team effort in a 7-0 win, giving Drew her second shutout of the season and day.
On Saturday, Feb. 23, the ladies traveled to Reading, Mass., and came out to play. After a scoreless first period, Reading scored in the second period. York played tough and had numerous opportunities. York's Abbey Boisvert played tough in the offensive zone, digging the puck out of the corner and giving the team many scoring opportunities. With a minute left and the goaltender pulled, York had many opportunities in front of the Reading net, but came up short losing a tough 1-0 loss.
On Feb. 24, York traveled again to Gorham to take on Cape Elizabeth Middle School one more time and again tallied another 6-0 shutout victory with scoring by Heroux, Julia Hird, Colleen Tourigny, Hannah Daigneault, Gabby Boulavahn and Ellie Giles.
