THE DOGS

Raja

Being kept in a puppy mill for much of his life, Raja is hoping to find that special family willing to give him the understanding he needs to flourish in a home. His cautious and sensitive personality stems from his lack of human interaction from his many years of life in a puppy mill. Very willing to form new friendships given the chance to warm up, Raja can't wait to bond to his new special people. In fact, he bonds so strongly that he does not see any need to share with other animals so we are asking he be the one and only pet. He will need patient and committed caregivers, willing to work with him and show him how wonderful life really can be. Silly and surely sweet, Raja is a great dog to be around and would do best in a home with older, gentle children. He will benefit greatly from obedience classes, making the bond between him and his new owner strong and healthy. We are asking that anyone interested in this stunning guy call and make an appointment to meet him. Raja is anxious to find his forever home.

Labyrinth

Labyrinth is an 18-month-old black and tan mixed breed who was returned to the AWS because his previous family just didn't have enough time for him. He is exceptionally smart and will pick up nicely in basic obedience class -  find out more at www.animalwelfaresociety.org/prg_dog_obedience.html. He is housetrained, eager to please and will do well with some dogs and children over 12. Please consider this boy for your family.

Mele

Mele is a nine-year-old spayed female Rottweiler who came to AWS as a stray. She is a great girl who will do well with some dogs and children over 10. No felines for her, though, as she will never let them live in peace. She is housetrained, knows "sit," "speak," "stay," "down" and "shake" and is sure to unveil a host of other talents as you get to know her!

Eli

Eli is a 10-month-old American bulldog mix who came to AWS as a result of a puppy mill seizure. He is currently in foster care and will be available by appointment only. His foster mom says he is now thriving in foster care and loves other dogs. Eli is especially insecure around men, and his new family will need to have patience when it comes to introducing him to men. His confidence has increased inside his foster home, and his family says he is a promising student who always tries his best. His new family should continue this training as well as work on socialization with people, and confidence building. An active home with some great leadership is what he needs to thrive.

THE CATS

Grits

He's an orange cat that you won't soon forget with his rough-and-tumble antics and comedic personality! Grits is a big boy who knows what he wants in life and isn't shy about getting it. He sees other kitties as moving targets that are fun to play with and does well with cats who enjoy rough play. Always ready for a game of mouse chasing or laser tag, Grits can be pretty intimidating to little ones so he will be looking for a home with older kids who can understand his playful behavior. A windowsill with a view is one of Grit's favorite places to be, especially when the warm sun is shining in. He is a fabulous guy who will bring many laughs to the right family who can appreciate his fun loving nature and zest for life. Grits has many love bites to give and rubs to receive so if you're looking for that silly little guy who will bring a smile to your face, he's ready for you!

Tori

Tori and her two sisters came to AWS as a kitten were raised in one of our foster homes. The three were born outside and did not have a whole lot of human contact prior to arriving at the shelter. Her sisters have since been adopted, but Tori is patiently awaiting her forever home. This gorgeous bundle of fur is going to need extra time to adjust. New owners should understand that she may hide a bit at first, but before you know it, her purr will be going and she will begin to trust and love you. Because of her quiet nature she would do best with children over 12 years of age. Her short coat will make grooming easy and her sweet little face will make her irresistible to pass by. This young lady is anxious to make her new family complete so come and check her out.

Abbie

Abbie is a cute little brown and white tiger colored cat. She is five years old and is spayed. Abbie is very cuddly and loving towards all people. She enjoys the company of children and adults alike. When it comes to pets, however, she would like to be the only one. She would love to go to her forever home and yours could be that very one.

Kitty

Meet Kitty! She is an eight-year-old spayed female with a short tabby and white colored coat. She has two wonderful friends named Pumpkin and Beep. She is currently residing with them in our front lobby. They are the best of friends and would love to go home together. If these three little sweeties are of interest to you come and visit them today. They may be the trio you have been looking for.

Anonymous

What looks like a puma, chirps like a bird and is the size of a small dog? Our gorgeous black cat Anonymous! This poor guy came to us with an injured hind end and required months of cage rest. Fostered in the home of one of our managers, he has been living the good life. He is quite the charmer and can often be found following right at your footsteps! Anos has been described by his foster mom as the world's perfect cat and though she would love to keep him as her own her 10 cats and six dogs beg to differ! Fitting in perfectly with his foster family full of animals, Anonymous would love to share his new home with others animals. Easy going and very laid back, he enjoys living safely indoors and sneaking a peek out the window any chance he gets. Now that his back end is healed, Anos eagerly waits for a family to scoop him up and give him all the love and attention he so well deserves, and his foster mom will be more than happy to set up an appointment for you to meet him! Please call 985-3244, Ext. 102 or e-mail Kirstin@animalwelfaresociety.org.

OTHER PETS

Geronimo and Grace

Grace is a beautiful red-eared slider and Geronimo a common slider. All turtles have the potential to enjoy a very long life span - up to several decades - if cared for properly. All sliders need both a warm, dry area and a large pool of warm water. In the wild, they choose water that warms up quickly in the sun each day. The water must be kept clean and turtles are messy eaters, so cleaning will be an almost daily routine. To learn more about turtles as pets, visit  www.anapsid.org/reslider.html.

Parakeets

The AWS has many beautiful parakeets or "budgies" in a variety of vibrant and muted colors. ‘Keets are especially jovial little creatures with a zest for life and a wonderful sense of humor. On the other hand, they are very messy, as all birds are, and adopters should know that their cages will require very regular cleaning. Remember, a noisy bird is a happy bird! Yes, these little darlings will keep you laughing with their song and conversation, but should settle down nicely for sleep time when you get them on a regular routine.

If you are interested in adopting any of these animals or if you'd like to know who else is available for adoption, please visit the Animal Welfare Society at http://www.animalwelfaresociety.org/ or call us at 985-3244.
