YORK - Concluding their season, the York Middle School Hawkins Division hockey team participated in the New England Middle School Championships.

York came away from the weekend with a record of 2 and 1 and was tied for the fourth playoff spot, but came up short in the tiebreaker decided on goals for and against.

On Friday of the championship event, York lost 6-3 to a strong team from Salem, N.H.

In the first period, Christian Going netted one from Craig Decato. Conor O'Brien had two goals in the third period. His first from Going and Decato and his second from Zach Franklin.

In Saturday's first contest, York defeated the Junior Astros, representing Pinkerton Academy from Derry, N.H., 3-1.

Arran Maran scored the first of York's goals unassisted. Sam Jennison netted the game winner on a pass from Wes Warner and Going closed out the scoring with an unassisted empty netter.

In the final game of the weekend, York took on Wilmington, Mass., and came away with a 4-3 victory.

Going got York on the board in the first period with an assist from Decato. Down 3-1 heading into the third period with only five and a half minutes to play, York would come back to win. York's goals were scored by Warner from Shane Hughes and Maran from Decato, and Going would score the game-winner with only 1 minute, 36 seconds left on a pass from O'Brien.

York's balanced play was the key to the weekend with all three lines both offensively and defensively playing very well.

Supporting this effort York saw key contributions from Alex Arau, Conor Banfield, John Cifrino, Tom Cifrino, Alex Janetti, Andrew Lusty, Kyle Robinson, Tanner Robinson and goalies Derek Johnson and Chris Parker.
