THE DOGS
Rocky
Rocky is an intelligent, athletic youngster who takes great pride in being put to a challenge. His drive to please is amazing, and he is such a highly food motivated dog that he is easy and exciting to work with. Just a handful of little treats and he's yours for the training. Those who spend time training Rocky are motivated by his intense desire and ability to learn. Nearly seven months old, Rocky is growing like a weed and is longing for a stable, consistent lifestyle where he can mature into a well balanced dog. With such a zest for life and having no previous guidance as a young pup, Rocky finds it difficult remain calm at times and tends to get overly excited and can act out inappropriately. He's like a toddler who throws a temper-tantrum. Rocky will thrive in a home where rules and boundaries are consistently enforced and positive reinforcement is always given. Being an active young boy, he'll need exercise and plenty of play to tire him out. He has begun clicker training here at the shelter and is responding tremendously well. We are urging potential adopters to research this fun training technique so his new family can continue with him. His obedience classes will be mandatory to ensure that he and his new family start off on the same page and are better prepared to begin a happy healthy life together. He is a remarkable dog and can be placed with dog-savvy cats, and we'd love to see him live with a balanced dog who can be a play buddy, and will model acceptable behavior, energy and self-control. We are asking that an appointment be made to visit with Rocky, prior to arriving at the shelter. If you would like more information on Rocky or would like to set up an appointment please contact Jocelyn or Karen by phone at 985-3244 or e-mail Jocelyn@animalwelfaresociety.org.
Labyrinth
Labyrinth is an 18-month-old black and tan mixed breed who was returned to the AWS because his previous family just didn't have enough time for him. He is exceptionally smart and will pick up nicely in basic obedience class - find out more at www.animalwelfaresociety.org/prg_dog_obedience.html. He is housetrained, eager to please and will do well with some dogs and children over 12. Please consider this boy for your family.
THE CATS
Tabitha
Tabitha is a warmhearted girl looking for a kindhearted family. She loves to spend her days snoozing on a windowsill, soaking up the warm sun. At just three years old, Tabitha finds herself being very curious, enjoying playtime as often as possible. Shortly after arriving at the shelter it was clear that little Tabitha had something wrong with her left hind leg. After a visit to the vet, it was discovered Tabitha had a broken pelvis. With months of rest and lots of tender loving care, she is now ready to find that special home to call her own. She will make one lucky family very happy, filling their lives with many years of joy!
Max
Here we have Max! He is a three-year-old, neutered male who has a handsome, medium length, brown tiger and white colored coat. Max came to us because, sadly, his previous owner could no longer have him. This beautiful boy anxiously waits for that special someone to come and scoop him up. Come and visit Max today; your home could definitely be that forever home he has been dreaming of!
Whistle
This beautiful girl is Whistle! She is a three-year-old, spayed female who has a beautiful, medium length, white coat. She may require a bit of grooming just to keep her coat beautiful and mat-free. Brushing your new cat is a great way for the two of you to bond. Whistle would love nothing more than to go to her forever home. Come down and check this beautiful girl out. Whistle could be the perfect match for you!
OTHER PETS
Lexi and Lily
Lexi and Lily are one-year-old spayed female rabbits who are playful and curious. Eager to find their new forever home, they would love to meet you. Please stop by and visit them soon to see if they are the right match for your family.
Hamsters
Right now the AWS has several baby hamsters that would love nothing more than to find some nice safe forever homes to go to. We have been handling them every day and this has made it so that they are very friendly. If their new owners continue to do this they will remain very friendly. If these little cuties have sparked an interest, come down and get one today!
Parakeets
The AWS has many beautiful parakeets or "budgies" in a variety of vibrant and muted colors. ‘Keets are especially jovial little creatures with a zest for life and a wonderful sense of humor. On the other hand, they are very messy, as all birds are, and adopters should know that their cages will require very regular cleaning. Remember, a noisy bird is a happy bird! Yes, these little darlings will keep you laughing with their song and conversation, but should settle down nicely for sleep time when you get them on a regular routine.
If you are interested in adopting any of these animals or if you'd like to know who else is available for adoption, please visit the Animal Welfare Society at www.animalwelfaresociety.org or call us at 985-3244.
