
MEETING THE PAST. Last week,
The York Independent's own Jennifer Saunders, along with her husband, daughter and aunt, took a well-deserved vacation and traveled across the Atlantic to the Azores and Portugal on a trip to connect with Jen's Portuguese heritage. While there, she visited the village of Lombinha da Maia on the Azorean island of Sao Miguel where her ancestors built a small church, Our Lady of Sorrows, in 1901. On her visit to the church, Jen met, by chance, a distant cousin who happened to have come to the neighborhood to visit friends and other relatives.
