TIME TO PLANT YOUR GARDEN. Don't miss the Annual Old York Garden Club Plant Sale scheduled for May 24 at the Grant House on Route 1 in York from 9 a.m. to noon. Hundreds of plants, mostly perennial flowering species grown in club members' gardens, select garden ornaments and plants from local nurseries will be available for sale at bargain prices. Included at the site will also be the Silent Auction of Rare and Unusual Plants. Money raised at the plant sale goes primarily to a scholarship fund for students pursuing a career in horticulture or a related field. The Old York Garden Club gives thousands of dollars annually to this cause, more than any other club in the state of Maine. In addition, with the proceeds from the annual sale they have also contributed to York Rivers Association, Master Gardeners Program, Old York Historical Society Children's Summer Programs, York Land Trust, Center for Wildlife and the Lyle Littlefield Foundation. Money also helps the club to plant and maintain the public traffic islands throughout York. Mark your calendar - the sale is held rain or shine and there is plenty of free parking.

THE SOUND OF ORGAN MUSIC. The Young Organist Collaborative's Sixth Annual Recital was held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, N.H., on May 3. Seven young musicians performed pieces by Bach, Handel, Dupré and Langlais on the church's 36-stop Letourneau tracker pipe organ. Pictured, in front, are instructor Tamara Rozek with Abigail Lown, Portsmouth; Richie Gress, Newmarket, and Jennifer McPherson, Eliot, and, in back, Matthew Maiello, Kittery Point; Jonas Eastman, Barrington; Katelyn Emerson, York; Maggie Chutter, Durham, and instructor David Wold. This summer two YOC students will attend the Oberlin High School Pipe Organ Camp, as well as Pipe Organ Encounters sponsored by the American Guild of Organists in Massachusetts and Nebraska. YOC auditioned 11 new students on the day of the recital and hopes to have its largest class ever beginning this fall. YOC's mission is to encourage young people to play the organ, and its 2008 Annual Appeal has so far raised $4,000 to fund next year's scholarship program. For more information, see
