One of the pleasures of being an independent paper and writing stories about the community that you live in, is that you get an honest sense of the good things worth noting, and not just the bad. A case in point for us this past week is the story of the York Street Baptist Church, which this weekend celebrates its 200th anniversary. Our story on page 8 of this issue highlights the history of the church, both past and present, and includes photos that show the simple grace and richness of the church's interior, aspects of the landmark building that may surprise those who have never been inside the church before. We hope that our story is meaningful both to the members of the church as they celebrate their anniversary, and also to other citizens of York so that they can have a fuller understanding of an historic and living part of the town we live in. To all of the members of the York Street Baptist Church then, happy 200th.
