THE DOGS
Raja
I am one of the last Buxton dogs looking for a home. They call me Raja. A simple home with a loving family is all this middle-aged American bulldog needs. My friends at the shelter have kept me busy while I wait for my family to adopt me. I have gone to mobile adoption events, a fashion show and one of my favorite volunteers took me to obedience classes here at the shelter. Here I am in my graduate attire! My new family will need to be patient with me. Older, gentle kids who can understand that I have had a rough childhood myself would be perfect in my new home. I have little experience living in a home environment, so please be patient as I experience things like televisions, furnace noise and even refrigerator noises. Because I have lived in a kennel environment for so long I will need a housetraining refresher. I know the basics, you and I will need to fine tune my scheduling. I am on the shy side, so it may take me a while to warm up to everyone, but it is worth the wait; I bond deeply with people close to me.
Rebel
Being the trainer's pet at the racetrack, Rebel has an outgoing personality and is very accustomed to human interaction. Surprisingly, Rebel knows how to fetch a tennis ball. When muzzled during playtime with the other dogs, he will still attempt to fetch, but is just as content to play soccer with the ball. In obedience class he is willing to try all things new, and is really excited about new surroundings, playgrounds, birds, flowers, etc. A handsome fawn who holds his ears in a unique position when at attention, he will make a "greyt" pet in a home with other dogs his size and children over the age of 6, and would be fine in a home with dog-savvy cats! Content to lean against the legs of anyone willing to show him love, he is quite the affectionate dog.
Kami
My name is Kami and I am a two-and-a-half-year-old pitbull terrier. My family could no longer keep me so the nice folks at the shelter are making me comfortable until I go to my new home. If your home has kids, I would love to live with kids over six years old. If you are thinking of adding me to your family and you already have a dog, please bring him or her to the shelter and the staff will introduce us. I get along with some dogs. Aside from my friendly disposition one of my other great qualities is my intelligence. Yes, I am a smart dog who needs my mind and body exercised. The best way for you and I to start relationship is by attending obedience classes, conveniently offered here at the shelter. You and I get a discount when you sign us up! These classes will allow us to learn to work together and think about other activities we can do together like obedience and agility... Isis
This beautiful girl is Isis! She is a seven-year-old spayed female Rottweiler stray who is housetrained and knows "sit." Friendly and affectionate, she would not mind sharing her home with other dogs, cats or children over the age of 6. Come down and visit her today. Isis may be just the dog you have been looking for!
THE CATS
Smokey
This lovely lady is Smokey. She found herself here because her previous owners wore moving and she unfortunately couldn't come along. This 12-year-old can't wait to move into a nice safe retirement home. Come down and visit Smokey today. This sweetheart will surely brighten up your day.
Oreo
This is our little Oreo. She is a unique little six-year-old who is double-pawed. Oreo came to us because her previous owners were moving and she couldn't go along. She can't wait to find a nice forever home to go to so, come down and visit her today. Oreo will surely bring lots of smiles to her new special people.
Max
Here we have Max! He is a four-year-old neutered male who has a handsome medium-length brown tiger and white colored coat. Max came to us because, sadly, his previous owner could no longer have him. Sunshine and Winston
These two cute little kitties are Sunshine and Winston. Sunshine is an eight-year-old, spayed female and Winston is a six-year-old, neutered male. They came in because their previous owners were moving and sadly these two couldn't come along. Sunshine and Winston have always lived together so they MUST go home together. OTHER PETS
Parakeets
The AWS has many beautiful parakeets or "budgies" in a variety of vibrant and muted colors. "Keets" are especially jovial little creatures with a zest for life and a wonderful sense of humor. On the other hand, they are very messy, as all birds are, and adopters should know that their cages will require very regular cleaning. Remember... a noisy bird is a happy bird! Yes, these little darlings will keep you laughing with their song and conversation, but should settle down nicely for sleep time when you get them on a regular routine.
Hop
Hippity, hoppity this is our little Hop. She is an adult dwarf mix who came to us because of a sickness in the family. Hop is a nice bunny who would love to find a nice forever home. Come down and see Hop today. She would be a great little bunny for any family.
