Richard B. Boardman

YORK BEACH - Richard B. Boardman, 83, died peacefully at his home in York Beach on June 2, 2008, surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born in York, the son of Carl G. and Romie (Ellis) Boardman. He attended school in York. After school he enlisted in the Navy where he served in the Pacific during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 6977 in York. He worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard retiring in August of 1980.

In 1949 he married Ingrid A. Johnson of Monson, and remained married to her until her death in 1996. He is also predeceased by brothers Carl, Eugene and Fredrick Boardman and a sister, Ann Downey.

He loved playing golf, hunting at his camp in Willimantic with family and friends, and watching his favorite Boston teams.

He is survived by five children, Greg and his wife Nancy, Gary, Scott and his wife Carol, Robert and Maria Ayer, and Heidi Eldredge; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother James Boardman and a sister Barbara Patch, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He will forever be missed by all.

A memorial service was held June 7 in the Union Congregational Church, York Beach, with burial in the First Parish Cemetery. Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, www.lucaseatonfuneralhome.com, directed arrangements.

Mary M. Gaudet

YORK - Mary M. Gaudet, 88, of 6 Netherby Lane, died Friday, June 6, 2008, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

She was born June 28, 1919, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Norbert F. and Ruth C. (McMurray) Brink. She attended schools in Boston and graduated from Hyde Park High School.

As a young woman, Mary worked as a secretary and office manager at McNulty Real Estate in Boston and Buckley Iron Works in Dorchester, Mass. She left the workforce to marry Earl J. Gaudet of Boston on November 24, 1945. Together they raised six children and lived in several states as Earl pursued his career in the paper industry. Mary filled her free time with rug hooking, sewing and antique hunting. 

After Earl's death in 1977, Mary returned to work as a secretary/bookkeeper at York Auto Center and then the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1985.

She became an accomplished painter in her later years and created impressionistic works in oil of landscapes and still life. Modest about her painting talent, Mary often gave her paintings as gifts to grateful family and friends. She was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. Christopher's Church in York. 

Mary will be remembered for her strong will and views, her hospitality, great sense of humor, and love of family, friends and church.

Her survivors include her children, Robert Gaudet and wife Susan Cooper of West Roxbury, Mass., Earl J. Gaudet, Jr., and wife Patricia of Epping, N.H., Jeanne Snell and husband George of Dover, N.H., Paul Gaudet and wife Janet of Winterport, Gregory Gaudet of Bangor, and Marie (Terry) Gaudet of Lebanon; sister Lorraine McDonald of Milton; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; good friends and neighbors Maryann Parnell and Geraldine Geary, and many nieces and nephews and their children.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Earl, brothers Francis and Robert, and sister Ruth.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Christopher's Church on June 10 with burial in the First Parish Cemetery, York.
