WEST KENNEBUNK - The Animal Welfare Society (AWS), a companion animal shelter, has reached full capacity and is actively promoting the adoption of cats with innovative and creative incentives.

In the month of July, the AWS is excited to offer a three-day special on cat adoptions through the Independence Day weekend. Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, July 3, 5 and 6, AWS will be offering adult cats, aged six months and older, for a discounted adoption fee of only $35. Included for this price are Spay/neuter, Rabies and Distemper inoculations, Feline Leukemia test, internal/external parasite treatment and a free health exam certificate to a local vet for a post adoption checkup. This is an unbeatable deal!

Statistics show that only a mere 16 percent of cats owned were adopted from a shelter. More than half are picked up as strays and another large percent are obtained from friends or relatives. This low adoption figure needs to change as far too many cats are in shelters waiting for another chance and are in need of permanent homes. Every adoption counts, as this shelter will see more than 2,000 homeless and abandoned cats and kittens each year.

AWS has an unbeatable selection of cats raging in age from kittens to seniors, boys and girls, and in almost every color imaginable. There is a cat to satisfy nearly everyone.

The AWS has committed to keeping adoption promotions fresh and exciting to encourage visitors and increase the adoptions of these great felines. The AWS website, www.animalwelfaresociety.org, is updated regularly to highlight current promotions and has an entire page displaying many, but not all, of the cats waiting for their forever families.

Spread the word! the animal shelter is the place to get a new cat or kitten.

The Animal Welfare Society exists to provide humane shelter and care to animals temporarily in need of housing, and to further the cause of responsible animal adoption and ownership through education and public awareness. The society actively promotes kindness, the elimination of cruelty and neglect to all animals, and the lifelong commitment of people to their pets.
