YORK VILLAGE - As a result of not receiving approval for an additional staff position at the York Public Library, the trustees have determined the library's hours must be changed.

Beginning July 1, the York Public Library hours will be Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library will remain closed on Sundays and Mondays.

As a result of the voters' approval of the library's operating budget during the May Budget Referendum, the Board of Trustees has announced the library will be able to sustain the range and quality of services to the community in the coming year.

However, the board noted in its recent announcement, as a result of not receiving funding for an additional staff person to address the dramatic increase in the use of the library, the hours must be modified.

"We appreciate the support of all who voted for the library's budget articles in May and regret the necessity of cutting some of our evening hours," said York Public Library Director Robert Waldman. "The Board of Trustees, staff and I remain dedicated to serving and engaging the York community in the joy of learning."
