Article Image HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Laura M. Childs, pictured here, celebrated her 98th birthday with her family. Born in Monticello, Maine, on June 12, 1910, Childs has lived in York for the past 68 years, where she and her late husband Charles raised 13 children. Her family has grown to 48 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She retired from the Portsmouth Naval Hospital after 14 years of service and donated 5,300 hours of volunteer service over a period of 17 years at York Hospital. She enjoys going to the York Senior Center a few days a week and spending time with her family.

Article Image SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ARTISTS. On June 15, four graduating Traip Academy seniors each received a $I,000 scholarship from the Kittery Art Association, made possible by recent donations to the KAA Scholarship Fund, which has been consolidated and renamed the Marcia Abigail Ryder Scholarship Fund in honor of the late Marcia Abigail Ryder, who taught art at Traip for more than 20 years. Article Image COMMENCEMENT. Family members, friends and supporters were on hand as Wells-Ogunquit Adult Community Education held its 2008 High School Graduation Ceremony on June 9 in the Wells High School Library. Six adults graduated from the program this year, each receiving a GED. The graduates include Noel A. Albano, Myles D. Batson, Ginette R. Colburn, Michael R. Dupont, Aaron-James J. McCarn, and Christopher R. Purington. Dupont and Colburn are pictured here. Adult Education Director Cheryl Dearman Mills welcomed the attendees, congratulated the graduates on achieving their goal and challenged them to set at least one new goal. Wells High School Anderson-Wormwood Sherri, Guidance was the graduation speaker and commended the graduates for their commitment. Kim Heang Kinsey, Adult Education Winner of the WOCSD Literary Achievement Award, read her winning entry. Superintendent Edward McDonough and School Committee Chair Damon Russell presented diplomas to the graduates who were present. A reception in honor of the graduates was held following the ceremony.
