YORK - The International Colonials, a basketball team comprised of 11 players from 11 countries, will be visiting and playing in York from July 6 to July 9.

Players and coaches on this year's International Colonials team come from Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Latvia, Northern Ireland, Germany, Serbia and the Netherlands. The players, ages 15 to 17, are recommended to the program by their club and school coaches overseas. Many play for their national teams.

The team's traveling coach is David Harder from the SISU Basketball Club in Copenhagen, Denmark. The international team will play the Maine Liberty AAU on Monday, July 7, at 6 pm. at York High School. The game is open to the public and admission is free. During their time in York, the International Colonials players will be hosted by York families.

The International Colonials program is sponsored by the New England Colonials International Basketball Club. Founded in 1980, this is a nonprofit, all-volunteer program that has as its central purpose the support and encouragement of international friendship and understanding between New England student-athletes and their peers around the world.

In April, Sam Leal and Jason Gorman of York traveled with the Colonials Ambassadors team to Finland and Estonia. York High School student Daniel Sheehan has also traveled overseas on two New England Colonials tours.
