SPECIAL HONORS. At its Annual Luncheon Meeting in June, the Old York Garden Club made Janet Crandlemire a life honorary member, an honor bestowed on only five other members: Stella Barnette, Nora Clements, Betty Ford-Smith, Mary Martin and Pepi Upton. Crandlemire joined the club in 1990 and served on the board for over 15 years in a variety of positions including recording secretary and hospitality. She was president twice from 1995 to 1997 and co-president from 2003 to 2005. She is still an active member and an advocate of the greening of our town and state. Barbara Perkins and Dinah Anderson were named Maine life Members of the Garden Federation of Maine for their long association with the Old York Garden Club. They joined in 1986 and 1987, respectively, and have remained in leadership positions over their long tenure with the club. Perkins, as the club's current historian, has had the huge task of collating 75 years of history, which has been scattered in attics throughout York. Old York Garden Club has been very fortunate to have these women, who over many years have remained active and interested, acting as a cohesive unit in helping to make Old York Garden Club the civic-minded organization it is today with 125 members. In other business, the club donated $2,500.00 to The York Land Trust, Center for Wildlife, Sustainable Harvest International, York County Extension Master Gardener program and the Garden Club Federation of Maine Scholarship fund. Unfortunately, the club had no qualified scholarship recipient from York or the Piscataqua District for the current year. Pictured are Old York Garden Club Honorees Dinah Anderson, Janet Crandlemire and Barbara Perkins gathered together at Anderson's garden in Cape Neddick.
