Book Signing At The Nott House. With the opening lines, "I came here at the age of six weeks in a laundry basket, so you see, with the exception of a few summers, I have been coming here a long time," Beatrice vom Baur Madeira Edmands, known as "Bea" to her many friends, launches a charming collection of short stories of life on the Kennebunk shore. "Ole Kennebunkport Stories" begins with her grandfather, John Townsend Trowbridge's involvement in founding the Boston and Kennebunkport Seashore Company in 1873, which initiated tourism on a grand scale in the ‘Port. There follows a delightful panorama of anecdotes seen through Bea's eyes as she summered in the ‘Port as a child and young woman during the early 20th century. Little known facts and foibles of both the summering notables - Booth Tarkington, Atwater Kent, Kenneth Roberts and Julia Child are but a few - and folksy residents add charming splashes of color throughout this most readable little book. Mrs. Edmands will be signing both newly and previously purchased copies of her book at the Nott House, 8 Maine St, Kennebunkport, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 23.
