YORK - The Mainely Tennis/York Golf and Tennis Club USTA 14 and Under Junior Team placed second in the recent USTA Maine State Championship in Portland.

The 18 and Under Team won third place in the state tournament.   

"We want to congratulate our teams for doing so well in the state tournament," said York Golf and Tennis Professional Lisa Wilcott. 

Last year the York Golf and Tennis Club 14 and Under Team had won the state tournament and placed fourth in New England.

The USTA team tennis format includes a boys' singles player and doubles team, girls' singles and doubles team and a mixed doubles team. The matches are decided by games won.

This year, the 14-and-under players included Mia Briggs, Garrison Dominguez, Rebecca and Ben Siegel, Andrew Lamonica, Olivia Owens, Caitlin Kelly, Jack Lawlor and Nina Boutin.

The 18-and-under players were Frawley Barton, Zach Kofman, Emily Campbell, Kayla Weston, Jared Fitzgerald and Jack Carley.
