Charles E. Cove of York, a Marine Corps veteran who served in Vietnam, recently received the Maine Silver Star Honorable Service Medal from Gov. John Baldacci during a presentation recognizing Maine veterans who were wounded while serving the nation.
William P. Hancock, Jr., of Cape Neddick, Army AC in World War II, has received the State of Maine Silver Star Honorable Service Medal as a former Prisoner of War. Veterans from across the state were honored at a ceremony held at the new Maine Military Museum and Learning Center.
According to the governor, Maine has the highest proportion of veterans of any state in the country, and the goal of the State of Maine Silver Star Honorable Service Medals is to recognize all veterans in Maine who have been wounded or been held captive during conflicts overseas.
