Article Image Help children in Africa get the medical care they need by getting your holiday shopping done early while learning about the work of York's Nancy Kilpatrick, newly appointed medical coordinator for Children of the Nations, at the Holiday Shopping Night Out in South Berwick on Oct. 15.

YORK - You won't want to miss "A Holiday Shopping Night Out" at the beautiful Red Barn at The Links at Outlook Golf Course in South Berwick to enjoy gifts, art, refreshments and more while helping children in need.

The event, set for Oct. 15 from 6:30 to 9 p.m., will benefit Children of the Nations (COTNI), which ministers to orphaned and destitute children in Malawi, Uganda, Sierra Leone and the Dominican Republic. COTNI also operates a feeding station in a squatter's village of 8,000 people and has a ministry to children in Uganda who have been severely traumatized by terrorists.

Nancy Kilpatrick, a maternal-child health nurse at York Hospital and a local resident is the organization's newly appointed medical coordinator. She assists to raise funds for this program's effort to provide medical teams from the U.S. to care for children with little or no access to medical care in these regions. Kilpatrick will share the vision of the organization at the Holiday Shopping Night Out.  More information about COTNI can be found at www.cotni.org.

Residents from across the region are joining in this special event to benefit the organization. Offerings will include holiday cards by Send Out Cards with Diana Flynn, yoga memberships from South Berwick Yoga, gift certificates from The Links at Outlooks Golf Course and The Red Barn, toys and hats from The Little Hat Co., gift certificates from Childlight Yoga and South Berwick Yoga, holiday floral arrangements by Flowers by Christine, accessories from Puttin' On The Glitz, Beigo Handbags, Mia Bella Candles, wellness, bath and spa items, cosmetics by Mary Kay, Southern Home Living Decor, paraffin waxing by Kim Walker-Lewis with Mikayla J's Spa, TARA Photography, Usborne Books, Pampered Chef, delectable cooking items from Wildtree, hand-crafted Ukrainian eggs by Debbie Wilson, embroidery by Lisa Dupuis, handcrafted belts and headbands by Jessica Mayo and many other handcrafted items.

A $12 donation at the door includes raffle tickets, appetizers, music and, organizers add, "a warm heart." Enjoy shopping while listening to music from Something Cool, a jazz trio with pianist Ferdinando Argenti from Pisa, Italy, featuring tunes by Gershwin, Cole Porter, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra with some blues and Dixie to keep the night upbeat.
