WELLS - Volunteers are needed to join the planning committee for the Relay for Life of York County.

Relay for Life is a unique fundraising event that allows participants from all walks of life - including patients, medical support staff, corporations, civic and other organizations and community volunteers - to celebrate, remember and join together in the fight against cancer. Relay for Life is a team event where participants walk around a track relay-style overnight, and teams of cancer-fighting enthusiasts gather to show their support and dedication.

More than 51 teams of York County residents participated in last year's relay. Together they raised over $70,000 and supported the 73 survivors that were in attendance.

Volunteers from the area are needed to begin planning now for next year's event, which is scheduled for June 12 and 13. Committee members plan all aspects of the event, from logistics to entertainment.

Those interested in helping are invited to attend the event kickoff for the planning committee, scheduled for Oct. 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of Wells Junior High School.
