YORK COUNTY - On Oct. 19, drag racing will be returning to Sanford in conjunction with WABAN, an organization that has been providing services to children and adults with developmental disabilities for over 40 years.
The North East Off Road Vehicle Competition Association (NEORVCA) will be officiating over competitive drag racing in the sand in five different classes, with all the proceeds going to benefit the programs at WABAN. The race classes will include Top Eliminator: 4x4 and Dragsters 5.59 seconds and quicker, Street Eliminator: 4x4's running slower than 5.59 seconds, ATV Top: 3 and 4 wheel ATV's running 5.69 seconds and quicker, ATV Trail: 3 and 4 wheel ATV's running slower than 5.69 seconds, and Juniors: 3 and 4 wheel ATV's running slower than 7.0 seconds with drivers 8-13 years old. Local 4x4's and ATV's are welcome.
The races will be held at the Sanford Regional Airport, via the Kostis Lane entrance, with registration and inspections starting at 7:30 a.m. Time trials will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with elimination races beginning with the Juniors Class at 1 p.m.
General admission is $5 per person with children 12 and under admitted for free. Food vendors will be on site to keep the spectators and racers well fed.
